Fish, Chips & Salt Cruise Anderton Boat Lift → Royal Albert Dock, Liverpool Saturday 13 June 2026 | 13:00–22:00

Sit back and enjoy a relaxed nine-hour cruise through stunning industrial, rural and maritime scenery. We’ll travel from Anderton Boat Lift, along the beautiful Weaver Navigation, through Marsh Lock, onto the Manchester Ship Canal, out to the River Mersey, through Eastham Locks, and finish in style at Liverpool’s Royal Albert Dock.

Up until the late 1970s, one of the regular cargos handled at the British Waterways Board wharf at Anderton—right beside the world-famous boat lift—was bagged salt.

Mined at nearby Winsford, or produced locally by heating brine into bright white vacuum salt, it was bagged and shipped out in bulk. Barges would load up to 300 tons at a time, carrying the salt to Liverpool, where it was transferred to deep-sea vessels bound for destinations across the globe.

Fish & Chips included but you can add your own salt!
We’ll stop at our berth at Sutton Weaver around 17:00 to collect your freshly prepared supper from 4 Seasons Fish & Chips (Frodsham).

Easy transport
Coach transfer will pick you up from Royal Albert Dock (Salthouse Quay) at 12:00 and take you to Anderton Boat Lift for the start of the cruise to Royal Albert Dock (where we berth at Canning Dock) .  There are plenty of car parks and public transport links to and from Royal Albert Dock

⚠️ Access note
Access to the Danny’s berth at Anderton Boat Lift is via a steep, step-free path from the visitor centre and car park, which may be challenging for guests with mobility difficulties.

A full day out, great views, and classic fish & chips — what’s not to love?
