Royal Albert Dock (Canning Dock), Liverpool – Mode Wheel Lock, Salford 5th May 2024

This nine-and-a-half-hour cruise takes in the history and scenery, both industrial and rural and we set off from Canning Dock in the Royal Albert Dock, Liverpool to our berth within Mode Wheel Lock, Salford. You will get to experience the sights and history of the River Mersey before we join the Manchester Ship Canal at Eastham lock.  We will pass through Latchford, Irlam and Barton Locks as well as going under a variety of bridges and an aqueduct before arriving at Mode Wheel Lock.  On arrival our coach will be waiting to return you to the Royal Albert Dock in Liverpool.  

This six-hour cruise takes in the history and scenery, both industrial and rural and we set off from within Mode Wheel Lock itself, and pass through Barton, Irlam and Latchford Locks as well as going under a variety of bridges and an aqueduct.  We then join the Weaver Navigation via Marsh Lock to our disembarkation point at our berth below Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge.  

There are numerous places to park at Salford Quays and good public transport/tram links.  The nearest car park is Media City Multi-story car park.  At the end of your cruise our coach will be ready to take you back to Mode Wheel.

We start our cruise at 1100 hrs and pass through the Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge before winding our way through some of the river's most stunning scenery as we head for Dutton Locks.  The final leg is to Acton Bridge, which dates from 1930’s and although of impressive size, the bridge swings with just the use of a few horsepower due to its weight being borne by a floating pontoon.  We will not be sailing through this bridge however as this is the finishing point for our journey.  More information on this cruise can be found here

Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge to National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port via Runcorn Bridges -  includes coach transfer to the Danny at Sutton Weaver (park at Ellesmere Port)

The journey will take approximately 3.5 hours as you travel in steam powered, Art-Deco splendour from our berth at Sutton Weaver to Marsh Lock and out into the Manchester Ship Canal to the Danny’s old home at Old Quay in Runcorn and Weston Point Docks, where all the Manchester Ship Canals tugs used to berth as it was their maintenance depot.  We will pass under the viaduct and through the Jubilee Road Bridge (known locally as the ‘Bird Cage’ due to the number of starlings nesting there)!  We will then turn and make our way back down the Manchester Ship Canal to The National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port.

We will be operating a Park & Ride from the car park at The National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port to take you to the Danny at Sutton Weaver.  The coach will depart at 1215 hrs in time for the 1300 hrs sailing. Your car will then be there for you at the end of the cruise.

National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port – Latchford - National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port

This four-hour cruise gives you an opportunity to take in the scenery, both industrial and rural as we cruise from The National Waterways Museum in Ellesemere Port to Latchford, before turning and returning to The National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port.    You can park free of charge in the National Waterways Museum car park, or there is a rail station nearby.  Why not visit the museum before your cruise?

We’ve been asked many times for an evening cruise, so we've added a Twilight Cruise between Ellesmere Port and Canning Dock in the Royal Albert Dock Complex.  This four-hour cruise starts where the Shropshire Union Canal joins the Manchester Ship Canal at what is now the National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port and we'll enter the River Mersey via the lock at Eastham.  We will pass the Cammell Laird shipyard and the Tranmere Oil terminal during our cruise and you can sit back and take in the lovely Wirral and Liverpool Waterfronts whilst enjoying a drink or two!.  As well as commentary provided by Captain Dan Cross, there will be some light entertainment provided by LeeAnn James who is back by popular demand.

The area is a scheduled monument and award-winning visitor destination.  Our berth is just below the famous lift, we are too big to actually go on the lift, but you will get a great view of the amazing structure on this cruise. CRUISE DEPARTURE TIME FROM ANDERTON BOAT LIFT BERTH - 1300 HRS - cruise duration approximately 3.5 hours.

On this cruise we will leave from below the Anderton Boat lift on a picturesque cruise along the River Weaver to our turning point at Acton Bridge before we return to our berth at Anderton Boat Lift, whilst being entertained by local duo Top Monkey, featuring songs by The Beatles, Snow Patrol, The Beautiful South, Oasis, The Kinks, Abba and many more - you're sure to have a very enjoyable afternoon!

Anderton Boat lift opened in 1875 to transfer narrow boats the 50ft between the River Weaver and the Trent & Mersey Canal - today the traffic is mainly pleasure craft. The area is a scheduled monument and award-winning visitor destination.  Our berth is just below the famous lift, we are too big to actually go on the lift, but you will get a great view of the amazing structure on this cruise. This six-hour cruise takes in the magnificent Weaver Navigation all the way from our berth below the Anderton Boat Lift to Marsh Lock where we join the Manchester Ship Canal to our destination at the National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port.  More information on what can be seen on this route can be found here.  Guidebooks are also available to buy on the cruise for £5.00

Please park at Anderton Boat Lift (CW9 6FW) in time for the 1100 hrs cruise departure. Parking charges payable.   At the end of your cruise, our coach will be waiting to return you to your car at The Anderton Boat Lift. .

Please note the National Waterways Museum will not be open when we arrive at approx 1700 hrs.

Monday 7th October 2024 - Finale cruise of the 2024 season “The Mersey Weaver”.

Acton Bridge, Northwich to Sandon Half Tide Dock, Liverpool Docks.

Experience three separate waterways, the Weaver Navigation, Manchester Ship Canal, River Mersey and concluding with locking in for a tour of the Liverpool Docks before berthing at our winter berth in Sandon Half Tide Dock, Liverpool.

This unique seven-hour sailing, gives you the chance to experience everything from fascinating history, wonderful scenery and getting up close and personal with commercial shipping – something for everyone.

We operate a Park & Ride from Anderton Boat Lift to take you to the Danny at Acton Bridge (there is no public parking at Acton Bridge) and our coach will take you back to your car at the end of the cruise.

10:00 Departure prompt from Acton Bridge with approx 17:00 arrival in Sandon Half Tide Dock, Liverpool.  Please note that the arrival time is approximate as we are at the mercy of lock times and other shipping once we get to Liverpool.  

IMPORTANT INFO – ALL passengers will be required to use our coach to exit the secure Liverpool dock system.  However, we have scheduled a drop-off in Royal Albert Dock for those not wishing to return to Anderton Boat Lift.  Coach travel time from Liverpool back to Anderton Boat Lift will be approx 45-60 minutes depending on traffic.
